The DOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a strict rating system for determining whether a motor carrier has adequate management controls in place to ensure compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Hazardous Materials Regulations. If it is discovered that these controls are inadequate in any of their six fitness review categories, they may assess substantial penalties and consequences to motivate compliance. This is also an excellent opportunity to introduce several best practices and “world class” principles into your program as well.
A simulated DOT audit will be conducted on a carrier's procedures patterned after an actual Compliance Review using the DOTs Field Operations Training Manual for audits.
● An audit sample will be selected from the carrier's past CSA roadside inspections and crash reports.
● The six factors to be audited include a review of the following records.
o Insurance and coverage
o Accident reports and register
o Driver Qualifications files, Alcohol & Drug testing records, and Clearinghouse
o Hours of Service (ELD Logs and time records)
▪ Including all appropriate supporting documents
o Maintenance Records
▪ Roadside Inspection reports
▪ Service and repair records
▪ Annual Inspections
▪ Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports
▪ Random vehicle inspections
o Hazardous Materials records
▪ Shipping Papers
▪ Training records
As a result of your investment in this project proposal, the following benefits will be realized:
● A continuous process to improve your safety compliance.
● Reduced risk, enforcement penalties and accident experience.
● Improved CSA 2010 BASIC scores and resulting DOT Interdictions.
● A safe and positive work environment.

Our appreciation for the driver’s professionalism and unique concerns promotes communications and genuine, honest interactions with drivers. Training is focused on effective relevant adult learning techniques. Boring training is a huge waste of expensive resources—it is not acceptable performance.
The “Compliance” in our name signifies an ability to conduct a comprehensive business analysis and a thorough knowledge of management techniques. This provides the basis for identifying operational and waste minimization opportunities (Lean Transportation) for managers from the executive level to the line managers.
One thing that separates DOT Compliance Safety Group from other consulting firms is our ability to translate the regulations into practical management procedures. All of our consultants have substantial industry experience. Implementing mandatory regulations is not difficult when applied with a commitment to crisp performance expectations and basic management principles.
We are focused on helping clients implement sustainable processes that enhance performance and bottom-line results. In sequence, this is our normal plan
1. Conduct a thorough assessment (Simulated DOT audit or Fleet Assessment)
2. Design procedures to set proper expectations
3. Create the internal management processes
4. Train both management and drivers
5. Follow-up and fine tune
